Field Day 2023

ARRL Field Day 2023 is June 24 and 25.

We have a change in location so check the website for details.

The club held its first dispersed meeting due to the COVID-19 outbreak.   It appears that we had 34 people in attendance.  Not too bad for our first-time using video conferencing.   After a few words from the President Bob, W1RH and a few updates from board members we heard from Bill W9KKN.   Bill gave an overview of how he has been able to take his contesting efforts to the next level using the ZF1A contest station in the Caribbean.  There was no raffle and everyone had to bring their own snacks 😊

Forty four members and visitors were in attendance at the February meeting.   After introductions and a few updates from the board the meeting began with Chris, W7JPG leading a discussion on the mentoring/Elmer program.   He collected information from the meeting attendees about topics they could mentor and topics they would like assistance with.  Chris will build a list of mentors and their proficient topics to be available on the groups.io site. We also attempted a QSO with the VP8PJ dxpedition via remote station. We had internet difficulties and were not able to complete the contact.

We had a huge turnout at the Januray meeting, 41+ in attendance.  A few new prospective members and visitors from local Fire Safe Councils were in attendance.  Dave, K6TQ was our main speaker.  Dave gave a presentation about his journey to get a tower installed at his home.   We also wished safe travels to Steve, W1SRD and his team for their DX expedition to South Okney Island.

The 2020 Discovery of Gold Special Envent Station had over 420 QSO's over two days.  Lots of Winter Field Day contacts were put in the log.  The weather on Saturday was excellent with lots of station visitors.  Sunday we had a little rain, first time in 18 years that it rained during the event.  The weather cleared up in the afternoon for another nice day.  Fewer vistiors on Sunday but lots of contacts.   We had some fun generator issues to overcome and a noise problem on 20m but still had fun and even got some DX in the log. See everone next year.
